Food has become an area of conflict and confusion - endless weight loss dramas, eating disorders, cravings, addictions, body image obsessions and never-ending searches for "the best" nutritional system. A new understanding is emerging as exciting discoveries in mind/body research challenge our old nutritional beliefs. How we eat reflects how we live our lives and each meal is an opportunity to nourish your body and soul!During this seminar,(previously held) Walter 'Shantree' Kacera will guide you to understand your cravings and binges explore and release eating patterns that began in childhood, and examine the healing capacity of tastes on your body, mind and emotions. He will help you to observe and track what happens, when you think about and eat food, and how both your thoughts and the food itself affects your body and emotions. Finally, he will guide you to trust yourself with food, and eat with joy rather than guilt!
It seems that our inner wisdom as it relates to eating, has changed in our modern world, by looking at labels, belief in marketing advertising and in following the latest diets.
We are following the dictates of packages instead of our wisdom about the content. We are looking at the external instead of the wisdom that is within.
This called not trusting our inner wisdom, but trusting all the knowledge of others.
One of the main reasons people are overweight these days is due to the fact that they have changed their feelings toward their food and nutrition needs, and only think in terms of what is "right, wrong, good" or "bad."
Your whole life will change once you begin to view your world, into categories of "right" and "wrong," the more you are getting away from yourself. And, the more you get away from yourself the more you lose one of your most essential senses - your sense of feeling. Research has shown that all developed countries are having similar problems and that these problems appear from losing one's sense of feeling.
More and more feelings are being overridden by rules that you "should" or "have to" follow instead of feeling your own truth and following it.
We seem to be following nutritional beliefs that others have mapped out instead of making choices based on our own bodily experiences.
WHAT DOES YOUR BODY TELL YOU
Diets are something, that women usually start doing when they reach their teen years. They start dieting because their parents, friends and all the advertising and magazines tell us we should. Diets are mental ideas that simply fit the person who is doing the dieting. And, they only work for a short period of time. Diets will never work for everybody. They need to be tailor for each person according to their constitution, bioregion, occupation, season, etc.
The purpose of a diet is simply a process that leads an individual from unconscious eating to eating consciously.
Unconscious eating is eating in a manner that goes behind what other people are saying is good for you. It is following what the advertising makes you believe is good for you. It's following "the more the better" and "the faster the better" modern rules of eating and living.
Conscious eating on the other hand means eating foods that agree with your body. It is an inner wisdom of the body. Its your body communicating with of what is nourishing you and what is not, it's that simple.
It's a deep inner feeling and knowing when your body is hungry. It means eating at the time when you’re hungry and not when it "should be."
Inner wisdom eating means that you verify with your body during the course of the day and are conscious of what sort of feelings you are experiencing. If you relaxed your body messages and feelings are clearer to what your body is communicating with you.
The more you are in touch with the feelings of your body, the clearer the signals you will get. You will begin moving away from eating that is fixed in time to eating that is supported on the signs of your wisdom of the body.
WHAT DOES YOUR MIND TELL YOU
The other half of this equation is to become more aware of the situations in which your mind tells you it wants something to eat. For when you eat when your minds tells you to you are hiding the process of feeling upset, and compensating for it by eating. The worst part of this is that now the upset feeling will be stored into your body. This is due to you not allowing it to be. You have created a resistance against feeling the true body feeling. In addition you have transformed this resistance into a body resistance in the form of body fat.
So, the question is how do you break this destructive cycle? Here are few simple and easy steps that you can follow when you are upset.
Remember that eating could be a sacred process. Make it a regular habit to prepare your meals with time and relaxation. Be total present with the preparing of your meal, and don't do anything else. When you eat, only eat. Feel how the food tastes, smells, observe the colors, feel the different textures in your mouth.
Feel how your body feels right after eating. Take time to experience the nourishing wisdom which is a gift from each food. Ask your body how it feels as it becomes your new tissue. The more you do this, the more you get a feeling of what is healthy and what is not healthy for you. This is inner wisdom eating and your body.
